tending intensity in this wild world
Rebecca is an Occupational Therapist and a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner in-training. Rebecca will be a certified Rebloom coach in summer of 2022. Rebecca is passionate about how improving our access to play, rest, and connection through the senses improves our nervous system regulation and creates a wide base of support for experiencing difficult or uncomfortable sensations & emotions, especially when navigating the intensity of all that life has to offer. Rebecca has a passion for facilitating a container where all sensations can be met with curiosity rather than judgement, and provides you with somatic toys/tools and resources specifically tailored to your nervous system in order to experience more play, connection, stillness, and safety, and ease in your life, and to be able to resiliently pendulate between various states of activation. Rebecca guides you in unearthing your own healing capacity: you know your nervous system better than anyone else, and together we can create the sensations of resilience and ease in more moments of your day. Rebecca particularly enjoys somatic work with those who have experienced medical or sexual trauma, polyamorous individuals and pairs/groups, those navigating life transitions, and those interested in deepening their connection with the natural world as a deep resource. All of Rebecca's work is informed by somatic abolitionism.
At Studer Somatics, Rebecca strives to facilitate your improved connection with your full being: mind, body, and soul, in order to let your deepest truths shine. She facilitates individuals’ resilience in navigating discomfort, overwhelm, and stress by giving you the toys/tools you need in order to be with, shift, and/or move through a variety of sensations as the waves come and go. In addition to managing difficult sensations, together we will work to create rituals and routines centered around play, stillness, and connection (to self, beloveds, and/or nature) to more easily create the conditions for you to access joy, pleasure, and peace every day. These interventions all help create a sense of safety and trust in the nervous system, which helps create room for growth and presence in deep healing work. We may also work on noticing and shifting states of perfectionism, urgency, either/or thinking, power-over, and individualism (among other colonial values).
Rebecca is strongly influenced by our individual and collective connection with nature as a co-regulatory relationship. She views her somatic work through a witchy, occupational therapy, and anti-racist lens, and is heavily influenced by the work of adrienne maree brown, bell hooks, Mary Oliver, Resmaa Menakem, Prentis Hemphill, Irene Morning, Rachael Maddox, Mahshid Hager, Peter Levine, Clarissa Pinkola-Estés, Ram Dass, and Joanna Macy. Rebecca enjoys new moon and full moon rituals as well as intentionally connecting to the earth & elements through her senses every day.
Rebecca is interested in the mind/body/soul connection in all areas of her life! They enjoy noticing/orienting and stillness in nature in their free time, and is often found playing the piano to jam bands, doing intuitive movement practices, playing with her cat Louise, reading, listening to podcasts and music, all while soaking up the delicious California sunshine. Rebecca is originally from Michigan, and loved living in the Pacific Northwest for several years before moving to the bay area. Rebecca now lives in the north bay surrounded by trees and the Russian River. Rebecca identifies as a queer pansexual solo-polyam femme and is interested in voices of Black intersectional feminism as a model for social justice and social change in our current capitalistic, colonial structures. Rebecca believes in the power of Pleasure Activism and Emergent Strategy (adrienne maree brown) as guiding principles in her life and work.
Rebecca is experienced in working with a variety of diagnoses/topics, and particularly loves working with folks interested in divesting from values of colonialism (urgency, perfectionism, either/or thinking, worship of the written word, shame as a motivator, etc) and/or who are moving through life transitions (a new medical diagnosis, birth or death of a loved one, moving, changing jobs, etc). some toys/tools may include:
We will tailor practices and rituals/routines to your particular nervous system, with the intent of creating a wide base of support for all emotional states, as well as to exist in improved states of safety, ease, social engagement, and play.
